McLintock's Down
c 1880

I do not often manage to find these. Very nice print and unusual fastening. Quilted petticoats remained popular in the nineteenth century for winter wear. During the 70's and 80's colourful undergarments were produced, the designs often registered in an attempt to protect the copyright from rival manufactuers, such as Booth & Fox. A newspaper advertisement of 1877 stresses the healthy benefits of using a Booth & Fox petticoat. Their Patent Real Down Quilts and Skirts.
