Mourning Dress
c 1818

My thinking is that is is a Regency mourning dres. Any thoughts would be appreciated.   The woven muslin leaf design 1 in; 2 cm -  is lovely and the hem has a coordinated continuous leaf design. I think the muslin may well be Scottish. It is very similar to small square shawls of the period.  This dress has not been dyed from white.

Description

The fine silk muslin fabric with segmented leaves in a repeat design, the hem with a continuous leaf design.

The large scoop neck edged with satin ribbon, the long slightly shaped sleeves with a satin band one third of the way down, satin edged cuffs, the sleeves lined with natural cotton, back hook and loop closure to the neck and waist, full gathered skirt, brown silk stitching.

Shoulder to hem 54 in; 1.38 m

Waist 24 1/2 in; 63 cm

Bust 32 in; 82 cm

Hem circumference 84 in; 2.10 m

Condition

Very very good. The waist sash is frail. You can probably see in the photos.
