The fabric is French ramoneur (chimney sweep meaning a dark background) hand block printed cotton with details pencilled in green.  The back detailing is delightful. The brass hooks sewn to the hem lining are for attaching the bodice to the skirt.

Description

With small flower sprigs in duck egg green, coffee and cream on a two shaded brown ground, printed with flowers and squiggles, the bodice with wide open squarish neck with four seams curving from centre bodice to the arms, a wide waistband with cetnral pleat, side fastening opening with brass hooks nad embroidered loops, to reveal a inner bodice, plain calico to the centre with three tape ties, the back bodice with V neck, two seams curving to the shoulders and culminating above the waistband with two small covered buttons and corded trim, above the triple pleated waistband, the deep inset  long sleeves with a tie band at the wrist, secured with a embroidered loop and brass hook, lined with calico, three brass hooks sewn to the calico hem. 

Underarm approximately 32 in; 83 cm.

Shoulder to hem 15 in; 39 cm

 

Condition

Very good condition. The lining has undarm stains and a few other marks, but these do not show on the outside of the fabric. There is a very very feint underarm fading. One tiny hole beneath the front flap.
