Spitalfields Silk
1760s

Unusual colour which I would think would appear to be gold by candlelight and the ivory flowers would have glinted silver. I have two 18th century skirt lengths from a gown, which I can sell seperately. If you can't afford an 18th c gown, how about a length?

Description

Two curving leafy stems laden with small bunches of flowers climb up the fabric, in ivory, soft pink, old gold, green  and touches of blue, on a taupe coloured ground with two widths of horizontal lines, all in a brocaded tabby weave ground.

Length 1 - SOLD

Length 2 -  35 in  x 21 in; 89 x 54 cm -   2 + repeats  - £ 375

Length 3 - 30  x 21 in; 76 x 54 cm - £ 295

Condition

Length 2 - One longer length has a slight split 3/4 in; 1 cm horizontal split 20 in; 50 cm from top of the piece. Then there are two vertical splits to the centre of the fabric 3 1/2 in; 9 cm long (not solid split but with two breaks) and two 1 in; 2 cm horizontal splits further down. You can only see these when you hold the fabric to the light.

Length 3 - The shorter length has two original inset panels, top left which together measure 10 x 6 1/2 in; 65 x 17 cm at top down to 12 cm. These panels are original from when this section was part of the 18th century skirt.
